Great Ideas for mystery shoppers.

First, what is a mystery shopper. Someone that is paid to shop at stores, restaurants, theaters and sporting events. This statement is true in 2 different ways and most people are not paying attention to the subtle difference.

I will use an assignment to eat at a restaurant.

The first type of pay would include a set amount for gas, an amount for the meal and a tip. This is one type of mystery shopping. The payment for the job is only the amount to cover the cost of the meal. This is a type of payment that many fail to realize.

The second type of pay is that you would go out to the restaurant and have a nice meal. Once you have eaten you would take all the information that you have gathered and write your report and submit it. You would then be reimbursed for the meal and paid a predetermined amount for doing the assignment.

Both are ways to be paid for mystery shopping, though the first is more common than the second, the second is what most people expect when they think of mystery shopping.

Are you a good candidate for mystery shopping?

What makes a good candidate for mystery shopping? You should be able to communicate clearly in a precises and detailed way. This means you have to have an eye for detail and the ability to write down what you have scene in a way that is easily understood by the person or people that are reading what you wrote.

You must be able to describe the environment around you, the details can include whether you are hot or cold, the air could be cold around you or it could feel muggy. Slightly warm air tends to be the most inviting. Was the air sweet or did it make your mouth water from the aromas floating about. This could be important and not commenting on it could be a serious mistake. A restaurant that has a slightly pug-net smell at the front door will have a problem bringing customers in.

Many companies spend thousands of dollars just to create an atmosphere that will make their company popular. The local hang out is not a new idea, the meaning changes if you are someone that is looking to hang out there or a company that wants to have the stead income from everyone that is "hanging out".

You must be able to give a description of how others made you feel and what impressions they made upon you, you must be able to not only give a physical impression such as the employee's clothes were clean, slightly wrinkled perhaps even noticing that the uniform is worn and faded.

You must see the details, is the parking lot clean and is it well organized for easy access in and out. Is the grass green or has it turned brown due to the fact that a sprinkler is no longer working and no one has noticed.

If you notice these types of details and are able to express yourself in a professional and clear manner, you have what it takes to be a mystery shopper.
